The Philippine College of Physicians (PCP), in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Alliance (FCAP) held "Health Forum: Tobacco Industry Deception, Fraud and Manipulation Exposed" on 19 August 2014 at Annabel's Restaurant, Quezon City. Speakers for the event include Robert N. Proctor, PhD, Professor of History of Science at Stanford University; Anthony Leachon, MD, PCP President; Maricar Limpin, MD, FCAP Executive Director; and Erica Tania Davillo, AMSA Philippines External Vice-President.
Professor Proctor is known as the first historian to testify against the tobacco industry. The day prior to the event, Professor Proctor spoke in WHO Western Pacific Regional Office to representatives of socio-civic organizations. (See also: The Fraud of the Tobacco Industry) Interviews were also conducted by the media, widening the reach of this anti-tobacco advocacy.
AMSA Philippines, through Ms Davillo, shared to the audience its anti-smoking advocacy and its support for graphic health warnings on tobacco products. AMSA Philippines Internal Vice-President Christy Anne Padre also attended the event.
Ms Davillo reiterated that "we, medical students should be given opportunity to share our stand on health issues. We, medical students should personally participate to these matter for us to realize the importance of being contributory medical students of today and effective and passionate physicians in the future."
