AMSA Phil Supports Lumad Rights

by Paulo A. Remudaro (NORE, AMSA Phil)

To cap off the Indigenous People's month of October, the AMSA-Philippines Standing Committee of Human Rights and Peace (SCORP) would like to invite medical students to Manilakbayan 2015, a donation drive and medical mission to the Lumads.

The Manilakbayan was named after the pilgrimage of Lumad peoples from Mindanao to Manila, to raise awareness on the status of Indigenous Peoples. This year, 700 individuals traveled from Surigao City to Luzon island, to highlight their call to stop human rights violations in various Lumad communities.

SCORP is asking the medical community to lend their support in the form of donations (water, school supplies, dried food, medicines) and attendance to medical missions held in Lumad settlements during their stay in Manila.

The events are as follows:

October 31, 10 AM: Solidarity visit to the Lumads, Commeration of Lumad Martyrs
November 7 and 14, 3 PM: Medical mission to the Lumads
