Ms. Kathryn Gayle S. Quiwa of ASMPH – ACSIS has been selected as Regional Assistant for Capacity Building in IFMSA Asia-Pacific. Her appointment is part of the recent reorganization done by the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA), from which AMSA Phil is a part of. According to Gayle, “my function focuses on helping create, strengthen, and review programs and efforts that will enhance the skills and knowledge of our members. With the increasing need for us to be active and dynamic medical students and leaders in their communities, building capacity on the local level is very important.”
As Regional Assistant, Gayle intends to reinforce the relationship between IFMSA and AMSA Philippines by encouraging its Filipino members to join programs such as skill-enhancing training programs during the Asia Pacific Regional Meetings, Sub-Regional Trainings, and General Assemblies. She also invites us to be part of the IFMSA delegation to different conferences such as the World Health Organization Sessions, World Health Assemblies, United Nations General Assemblies, and many more. According to her, “this will give you a lot of opportunity to meet with people, enhance your skills, travel, and explore medical opportunities outside of your medical school!”
Gayle is part of the 10-member team for IFMSA Asia Pacific, which is headed by its Regional Director, Mr. Farhan Mar’i Isa from Indonesia. The latter just had a short visit here in Manila after coming from Guam for the annual World Health Organization – Western Pacific Region (WHO-WPRO) Meeting held last October 12-16, 2015.
